"Mad World" is such a classic! We had so much fun arranging this and we tried to give it a bit of a French flair - we even filmed it in Paris! Sorry it's taken sooo long for us to release a new video. We've been keeping busy with some new projects and have been traveling a bunch. We just got back from our first two concerts too! On a whim, the couple arranged and recorded two pop covers and released them on YouTube. Shakira noticed the duo’s cover of her song Empire and promoted it to her 130 million-plus fan base, saying: “We're loving Brooklyn Duo's piano/cello cover of Empire! Great work guys." The boost that resulted from that exposure and the positive response they were getting on YouTube encouraged the couple to continue creating videos.
Since then, Marnie and Patrick have released over 70 videos on their Brooklyn Duo YouTube channel and 7 albums of covers, spanning artists from The Beatles to Metallica to Taylor Swift (who also tweeted about them, saying their cover of her song “Blank Space” sounded "like a song people should walk down the aisle to"). In 2016, the couple started a second YouTube channel, Brooklyn Classical, with the goal of introducing classical music to a larger audience. With this new channel, Marnie and Patrick aim to showcase high quality, live performances of classical music. Brooklyn Classical often hosts high-profile guest artists, including the world-renowned Dover and Escher string quartets and percussionist Ivan Trevino.
In 2017, Marnie and Patrick partnered with Carnegie Hall and Ensemble Connect, a collective of some of the best young musicians in the U.S., to produce a cover of a-ha’s “Take On Me”. The video went viral and garnered millions of views in just a few months. Popular classical music stations Classic FM and WQXR regularly share Brooklyn Duo’s music on their social media pages, with Classic FM calling the duo “masters of the artfully planned pop cover.” One of their covers was also recently featured in an episode of ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy.

Hey guys! We Don’t Talk About Bruno is our 4-year-old daughter’s favourite song these days and has been on repeat in our house and car for weeks. (We’re sure parents everywhere can relate - it’s nice that the song is amazing and that we love it too!) So anyway, we made this version for her. We surprised her with the video yesterday and asked if she liked it - after watching the whole thing intently, her answer was a very decisive (and soul-crushing) “No!”

🗣️⚠️ ‼️ ATTENTION PEOPLE, THIS IS OUR FIRST BSB COVER EVER ‼️(BSB=Backstreet Boys, obviously, and if you didn’t know that then you should probably keep it to yourself because that’s embarrassing! 😘) But seriously this is big news. Tell me why-y we waited so long to cover this epic late 90s boy band pop ballad?! We’re idiots!
The reason we actually finally recorded this song (because it’s always been on our list) is because my (Marnie’s) sister Ali requested it for her wedding last week! 💕💕👰♀️🤵♂️😭🙌 She has the best sense of humor and thought it would be hilarious for guests to hear those sweet, instantly recognizable first notes and imagine the opening lyrics “You are my fire, my one desire…” as she walked down the aisle. She kept the music choice a secret from all her friends and when we started playing, we got a hearty laugh from all the guests. It was perfection! (She also began her vows with “Jay…you are my fire. And my one desire,” which was met with even more lols.) All this to say, we highly recommend this as a wedding processional!
A little more of our history with BSB. My sister and I were obsessed with them in high school. (I think I was voted most likely to marry one of them in some kind of class poll??) They were my first big concert. They were always our first love, ahead of *NSYNC. So we wanted this video to be perfect! My sis and I were adamant that Patrick incorporate some kind of chair dance into it (famously from the “As Long As You Love Me” video but whatever)
but he claimed he “couldn’t” 🙄🙄🙄- the end of this video is the best we could get out of him. Of course I had to include a patented Howie wink 😉 during his solo (although mine wasn’t quite as quick and effortless as his always were!) And obviously we had to wear the famous all white outfits. Anyway, we hope you love it! Recording it made me so so so happy! Play it at your own weddings!
