MDIN is a South Korean fabless semiconductor entity specializing in the design of highly integrated System-on-Chip (SoC) and Image Signal Processor (ISP) hardware. The engineering team, which includes veteran digital TV processor designers from LG Electronics, develops specialized video processing chips such as the MDIN-i540 and MDIN-640 series. These chips are available in multiple packaging configurations and memory sizes to support diverse integration requirements.

HDMI® Technology is the foundation for the worldwide ecosystem of HDMI-connected devices; integrated with displays, set-top boxes, laptops, audio video receivers and other product types. Because of this global usage, manufacturers, resellers, integrators and consumers must be assured that their HDMI® products work seamlessly together and deliver the best possible performance by sourcing products from licensed HDMI Adopters or authorized resellers. For HDMI Cables, consumers can look for the official HDMI® Cable Certification Labels on packaging. Innovation continues with the latest HDMI 2.2 Specification that supports higher 96Gbps bandwidth and next-gen HDMI Fixed Rate Link technology to provide optimal audio and video for a wide range of device applications. Higher resolutions and refresh rates are supported, including up to 12K@120 and 16K@60. Additionally, more high-quality options are supported, including uncompressed full chroma formats such as 8K@60/4:4:4 and 4K@240/4:4:4 at 10-bit and 12-bit color.

The silicon architecture features an integrated microcontroller unit (MCU) that does not use an ARM CPU core, instead relying on a proprietary small CPU design. MDIN provides a complete software package to customers for programming and configuring the microcontroller. The platform supports traditional upscaling hardware IP for resolution conversion, rather than deep-learning or AI-based upscaling algorithms.

For high-bandwidth applications, the hardware supports multi-channel digital video input and output configurations, including HDMI interfaces and parallel digital video connectivity. A dual-chip evaluation board demonstrates the capability to ingest four independent 4K60 video feeds from camera sensors, process the streams, and display them in a combined layout with integrated on-screen display (OSD) overlays.

The MDIN processors are utilized in professional and industrial video equipment by customers across Japan, China, and South Korea. Target use-cases for these integrated circuits include digital signage, broadcasting equipment, commercial video processing systems, and medical display solutions.
