FarmCraft101 | Machining A Custom Collet For An Antique Mortiser. FarmCraft101 @FarmCraft101 | Uploaded June 2018 | Updated October 2024, 2 minutes ago.
I make a custom collet for an antique American No.25 mortising machine, built pre-1925. The machine is still in service at my brother's home renovation business in Winchester, VA, but parts are no longer available for this machine. That's where the custom machining comes in.
I go through the process of turning a rusty bar of 1.5" mild steel into the collet, explaining the process along the way. I have many other machining videos on my channel, as well as on my other channel, GunCraft101.
A local machine shop quoted him $450 to make this part, and it was going to be at least a 2 month wait. He needed it done faster than that, so that's where I came in. Let's see, $450 and a two month wait vs free and a few days... hmmmm, tough choice!
