Welcome to Act 5 Scene 1 of Macbeth 👀📖
This scene takes place in an ante-room of Dunsinane Castle and exposes the cost of unchecked ambition.

A doctor and a gentlewoman observe Lady Macbeth as she sleepwalks at night 🌙
She carries a candle and relives the crimes she once helped plan.

As she speaks, her guilt spills out.
She refers to Duncan’s murder, Banquo’s death, and the slaughter of Macduff’s family.

Lady Macbeth repeatedly rubs her hands, imagining blood that will not wash away 🩸
The confident, ruthless figure from earlier scenes is gone.

The doctor realises that her illness is not physical, but mental and moral.
No medicine can cure a guilty conscience.

This scene shows a complete reversal of power.
Lady Macbeth, once in control, is now broken by remorse.
