Welcome to Act 3 Scene 4 of Macbeth 👀📖
This scene takes place in the great hall of the palace during a royal banquet and shows Macbeth beginning to lose control.
Macbeth and Lady Macbeth host a feast for the Scottish nobles 🍽️
On the surface, everything appears orderly and celebratory.
One of the murderers arrives and secretly tells Macbeth that Banquo is dead.
However, Fleance has escaped.
This news immediately unsettles Macbeth.
His plan is incomplete, and the threat to his power remains.
Moments later, Banquo’s ghost appears and sits in Macbeth’s place at the table 👻
Only Macbeth can see it.
Macbeth reacts in horror, speaking openly and confusing the guests.
His calm public image begins to collapse.
Lady Macbeth tries to control the situation.
She explains Macbeth’s behaviour away and urges him to pull himself together.
The ghost appears again, and Macbeth’s fear returns even stronger.
The feast breaks down into chaos.
By the end of the scene, the nobles leave unsettled and suspicious.
Macbeth realises that violence has not brought peace, only terror.
