Welcome to Act 1 Scene 4 of Macbeth 👀📖
This scene takes place in the royal palace at Forres and focuses on trust, loyalty, and hidden ambition.

King Duncan speaks about the execution of the former Thane of Cawdor.
He reflects on how difficult it is to know who can truly be trusted.

Macbeth and Banquo arrive, and Duncan warmly thanks them for their bravery in battle 🤝
Macbeth is publicly praised and honoured.

Duncan then makes a major announcement.
He names his son Malcolm as his successor, giving him the title Prince of Cumberland 👑

This moment is a turning point for Macbeth.
Malcolm now stands between Macbeth and the crown.

Although Macbeth appears loyal and respectful, his private thoughts reveal growing ambition.
He realises that he will need darkness and secrecy if he is ever to become king.

The contrast between Macbeth’s public behaviour and his inner thoughts becomes clear here.
Nothing is as straightforward as it appears.
