By Shakespeare - A play about self-love and self-loathing. Dublin theatre company Pan Pan presents an unashamedly postcolonial interpretation of Macbeth. Mac-Beth 7 is a contemporary performance for theatre with a cast of actors, opera singers, a contemporary dancer and an eight-year-old girl.
There are three elements that are intertwined in Mac-Beth 7: Opera, Shakespeare & live contemporary performance. The music is original and composed by a young Irish contemporary classical composer, Andrew Synnott.
Mac-Beth 7 is an attempt to understand the feeling of reading one play in one year of school practically line by line. It could be described as a pictorial version that is based on the play but elaborated and built upon. When Macbeth by Shakespeare is performed do we see it as part of a series of "reincarnations" -- new life created each time it is delivered as a play in action. In Mac-Beth 7 Pan Pan brings some of the body of Macbeth by William Shakespeare alive but only as a surprise to the rest. A seventh resurrection of Macbeth. It is not Macbeth born again by production but a new form, which has Macbeth as one of its seven parts.
