I have never made a more literal autistic edit than when saying ‘reading this document’ with footage of Vision reading a document, it was a choice and im standing by it Also if you spot the flaw in the quote about autism, violence, victimization and perpetration -no you don’t-
00:00 intro 03:49 does being autistic make you more likely to perpetuate bigoted violence? 13:01 men and terrorism 17:48 autism and violence? 26:35 autism and empathy (aka the f***ing dreaded empathy question) 32:01 performative empathy (and the demonization of neurodivergence) 41:07 conclusion
For more information, particularly on mass shootings, I would really recommend looking into the work by The Violence Project, all the stats are there and it's really easy to follow and extremely telling (most mass shootings happen at work, usually by people who have just been fired, something I didn't know but is the most unsurprising thing in the world) theviolenceproject.org
I would also like to take this moment to really emphasise that people should look into Phillip Nicholson's case. It's extremely representative of a lot of issues autistic people face taken to it's most extreme (which is still common even in it's most extreme form), but also; he deserved to be here and happy, and it's so unfair he's not, and more people should know his name.
Books; The Violence Project: How to Stop a Mass Shooting Epidemic Conflict is Not Abuse Why Won’t You Apologise? Asperger’s Children: The Origins of Autism in Nazi Vienna
Silent Minority youtube.com/watch?v=7Qb424HvKSQ&ab_channel=JulieStarmer Just a heads up - these films are... a lot. I don't regret watching them because they're so informative, but there is a lot of abuse of disabled people in these films, be aware.

LASTLY, music! rxshzt 🎧 Prod. by S.R. KTNZ youtube.com/watch?v=LKeT1stMJJw&ab_channel=S.R.KTNZNeurodiversity, white feminism and Hermione Grangerheroinefreak2021-06-26 | Genuinely everyone should read 'Conflict is not Abuse' it's rly rly good. (all this and I don't even like Hermione that much)
Idk if I'll ever top the amp images to try and explain the difference between an NT and ND brain
And finally, books; Conflict is not Abuse - Overstating Harm, Community Responsibility, and the Duty of Repair by Sarah Schulman. And ofc Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.Jumanji 1995, Christmas & masculinityheroinefreak2021-01-02 | Here’s a video no one asked for touching on Christmas, masculinity, capitalist realism, scarcity culture and a segment where I get very overly sincere about Robin Williams & I’m still anxious about it but if there’s anyone who is worth being sincere about it’s Robin Williams. I come at many of the things in this video from a very cisnormative position, I wish I'd mentioned this in the video but obviously when discussing something like masculinity some generalizations will be made that will miss the nuances of other identities too (if you're trans masc, a man of colour, disabled, etc etc).

Tara stans rise up! Also if I speak it to the Universe then Amber Benson and Anthony Head will definitely collab on a folk album at some point, that's how manifestation works right?
I made this because I think there's a lot we can learn from Tara, but also because I feel like the only times I ever see her talked about on YT it's always in relation to the Bury Your Gays trope which is valid because, she's one of the blueprints unfortunately! But she's a character that's meant a lot to me and I wanted to make something that acknowledged EVERYTHING her character represented, not just her death. Also I've seen the image of her when she's just been shot with the gunshot wound in her chest wayyy too many times so I just wanted an excuse to contribute some nice if somewhat extra imagery in the thumbnail!
The fancy old-timey-style backdrop I downloaded for the 'YouTube reaction channel recreation' I got from CopyCatFilms online, credit to Farrin N. Abbot!

LASTLY, but absolutely not least because Brene Brown is an absolute f***ing angel and her work has kept me sane this year and I highly recommend her to everyone,
Brene Brown's books have been a Godsend this year and they're all on audible so go check those out too, but if not her podcast Unlocking Us is on Spotify and (for me personally) the episodes with Harriet Lerner, Alicia Keys, Sonya Renee Taylor, Tarana Burke, Laverne Cox and Glennon Doyle have been so powerful and interesting, so they're there for ya if you feel like it :) I hope everyone's taking care of themselves, thank you for watching!what a time to analyse Chicken Runheroinefreak2020-07-31 | I TOLD YER THEY WAS ORGANISED! Also not to sound melodramatic but I would literally die for Babs.
I own nothing, copyright goes to Aardman/Warner Bros/whoever owns whatever piece of media I've used, yada yada yada.

(and keep as safe and well as possible because I know things are scary but it really is all going to be OK!)
Anyway to distract myself from... *gestures to everything*, I talk about the Manic Pixie Dream Girl trope, it's history, and how it both erases and stigmatizes neurodivergent gals who are just being their neurodivergent selves, which according to many who attempt to critique this trope is the worst thing about it.
