M1967 Field Training Pack Mounted In The High Position! Turning a Butt Pack into a Backpack! Howdy Folks! The short lived M1967 MLCE was extraordinary for it's time. One of the key features was it's modularity. Case in point is the Two Mounting Options for the Field Pack Training (AKA Butt Pack).
Mounting the Butt Pack in the "High" position prohibited the use of a rucksack, however it freed up a lot of real estate on the pistol belt for more ammo, water, first aid pouches, sleeping rolls, etc....
In theory on could actually carry two butt packs. One mounted High and one mounted Low. This would be ideal if you had gear that needed to be carried but not enough gear that would warrant the use of a rucksak.
