TL;DR: Recording loud vocals in an apartment is difficult but I managed to work my away around itUpdate (house bought)Billy Qvarnström2024-04-01 | Breaking the radio silence with breaking news! I bought a house, very cool but took a long time and was stressful which is why there hasn't been much activity. Also lots of work to be done with said house, like building a sick studio(!) which will cause me to be absent for a good while longer. I think it will all be worth it in the end, looking forward to making more music when I can!
Also rebranding to "Billy Qvarnström" soon - music already released on digital music platforms will stay where it is, new music will be on the Billy Qvarnström artist pages :)
Chase time! I've seen a lot of people claim that Chase is the weakest OP of the bunch but I disagree. Certainly more "raw" sounding than the rest but in a good way - I think it contrasts perfectly with Crazy Noisy Bizarre Town, and really signifies that season's focus switch from Morioh Nichijou to hunting a serial killer stand user. anyway hope yall dig my version of the song lmao

This track was especially exciting to revisit as I wasn't really happy with the mix the first time around - that disco bounciness just wasn't there. I still don't think I got it to the point where it matches what I hear in my head, but I got a lot closer this time I think.
Big thanks to Legendav for letting me reuse his fantastic guitar tracks, that really amped the funkiness up to the next level :)

Sono Chi no Kioku is a track that I've previously stated I am not a big fan of, and while I've grown to appreciate it more during the time it took me to make this cover, I still think it is the weakest of all the openings. With that in mind, I kind of set out to arrange this song in a way that I didn't dislike, and I think I succeeded in that. This absolutely doesn't mean I think my version is BETTER than the original, because it absolutely isn't, just that my version is arranged more closely to what I personally look for in music that I'd listen to :)
This one was VERY hard to sing - I haven't checked but it feels even more range-y than Sono Chi no Sadame which is already a very range-y song. The original track has 3 different vocalists (each vocalist from the previous 3 openings) which surely did not help with the difficulty lmao

Stand Proud is one of the few JoJo openings that is already heavy in its original form, so this one isn't as far off as the other tracks on the album. Still, some growls and blast beats never hurt anybody :)
Possibly hot take from me, part 3 is my favorite part but I will acknowledge it is not the "best" part (I would probably give that to part 2 or part 5). I will accept criticism for this statement in the comment section
As mentioned in previous descriptions, I decided to try the Buster Odeholm approach for sections that needed lower notes by using automated pitch shifters rather than physically re-tuning. This can be very clearly seen in the section at 02:42 and I feel I should adress that lmao

Here's the first of the music videos from my newly released JoJo album! The original song is oh so very iconic and it was great to finally render it in its full length. NOT an easy song to sing for sure, Hiroaki Tominaga has a crazy range and I tried my best to keep up.
Another note: I decided to try going full Buster Odeholm for this album - rather than physically retuning (or playing a 9-string) for sections that needed lower notes than my default drop E, I instead automated pitch shifters. I don't really have any guitarist's honor that I feel the need to defend lmao so I think it was an interesting way to arrange the tracks. Especially observant people might notice some of the lowest guitar notes don't quite line up with what I am fretting in the video and this is why!

Hey guys, trying something new this time - Potato Knishes has been stuck in my head for several weeks at this point and this was bound to happen lmao. I figured it'd be interesting to try filming the entire arranging and recording process and include that. Feel very free to just skip to the finished track and view this as you would any of my other videos though!
While Potato Knishes struck me as nothing more than a surreal meme with catchy music initially, I have been steadily going through the Ratboy Genius timeline and I am now a genuine fan. The music is VERY well written and there is a risk I do more covers haha

When I found out penguinz0 was in a metal band I was enthused, when I first heard Skynut I was blown away. Hey guys, bit of a different upload here!
I have been releasing original music every now and then under my given name since 2015 - two albums, one EP, and now this single (which is longer than aforementioned EP lmaoo). Last time I released an original piece was in 2019, after which I couldn't really justify the time it'd take out of doing covers etc. About a month ago however I got the HUGE urge to write and ended up creating this chunker of a piece, inspired by the Smalls Lighthouse Tragedy of 1801 (the same incident that inspired "The Lighthouse" - awesome movie).
I fully understand that original music isn't what most of my viewers are here for, and that's totally ok - I've got a VGM video coming up tomorrow so you won't have to wait for long :) hope some of yall dig this song until then!

LYRICS: For 30 days and 30 nights Amongst wicked, salty seas We man the light
We both guided many ships Tens come and gone Until the morn, that fateful day When one fell ill
Estranged at heavy sea, many long weeks He suffered day and night, we could but pray Never any aid in sight, our hopes grew slim And as if free at last, he drew his final breath
Are you still here? Why must you haunt me? I never wanted this Your pleas from somewhere far away, the other side
Why must you torment me? It wasn't me
You're not my friend, but it's cold outside Why don't you come in? You weren't my friend, but the wind is hard Why won't you come in?
For 120 days, and many endless nights Amongst wicked, salty seas I manned the light

If you've been around my channel for a while you've probably seen many a Gojira shirt being worn haha, they have been a huge inspiration to how I approach music and I figured I should attempt one of their songs at some point. More anime and VGM soon, don't worry :)
I changed a few parts in my version to set myself apart from the original a bit, I know a lot of people consider that sacrilege but the way I see it, if you want to hear the original you can go listen to the original. I'd much rather make the song my own a bit :)

I attempted them as high fry screams at first which didn't sound right, then as low growls which also didn't sound right, and after some experimenting I came up with what you hear in the video - not entirely sure what you'd call it and it's certainly not 100% accurate to whatever the hecc Daisuke does, but I think it turned out well. tl;dr - MTH vocals are hard but I tried anyways

I had a lot of fun coming up with the riffs for this one, and the final track has a flavor of heaviness that I think ended up cool. Here's a track I had a lot of fun arranging for the album. The original is very minimalistic and ambient, unlike my version haha - I took many liberties and mixed in a lot of different flavors while maintaining the pad chords from the original. I've been trying to learn the infamous thumping technique for quite a while which I finally utilized for the first time in this cover - I certainly still have a lot to learn about it though. Another album video coming soon :3

Hey guys! Here's my cover of the 6th JoJo OP, Chase - this one is at the bottom of a lot of peoples top JoJo OP list, but I dig it a lot personally. The raw, punky one-take vibe is super energetic and embodies the Kira pursuit arc really well to me. After sneaking some growls into my previous JoJo covers and hearing no complaints, I decided to be a little less discrete with the more extreme metal stuff in this one haha. JoJo and blast beats was a cool combo 10/10 would recommend
Uploading has been a little slower than I'd have liked recently as I've been in the process of moving - I'll be moving again pretty shortly because of reasons, but the place I'm living right now has no neighbours so I'm hoping to record a bunch of vocals while I can be as loud as I want whenever I want. :D
Great Days coming next!

Hey guys!
Excited to release this one - I'm really happy to be a part of the Elements EP by GameGrooves alongside a bunch of cool people. Fire is metal (this track), Water is Jazz, Wind is woodwinds and Earth is Folk.
Brought out the 9-string chonker again for this one~ It's been way too long since I did a Metroid song

Hey guys, here's another DOOM track - I haven't seen this covered yet, so that's pretty cool. I've been fascinated with Eric Hollaway's vocals for a good couple of years, so it was certainly cool to hear him singing in a Mick Gordon song. I transposed this down a little bit to better fit my range - keep in mind that Eric sings this in chest voice though whereas I used subharmonics, so that probably discredits me a little bit. Either way this was fun to do. :)
There's a lot of drama surrounding the DOOM Eternal OST going on and I'm not sure which side to listen to at this point. We'll see how much more I'll end up doing from it!

Hey guys!
It's probably not a huge surprise that I'd do some music from Mick Gordon's new Doom Eternal soundtrack - a bit later than I'd have liked but a lot of other projects have been going on. Either way, excited to get to put this out. Mick has certainly done it again. :D
It was very interesting to try to recreate the growl choir - I never would have thought of doing such a thing on my own haha.

Hey guys!
It's been a while, but here's another Patreon request - I have never even heard of the Guilty Gear series until now, but this song is really cool haha. Vocals were very challenging, in particular the clean parts in the pre-choruses - I think I'm improving though. :)

Here's a track I've wanted to cover for a really long time but never had the guts to attempt the vocals. Ryo-kun and Daisuke-han both have very unique voices, and MtH have a very dedicated fanbase haha. That said I hope you enjoy my take on this awesome song! :)
Hey guys! The JoJo train continues on - this one was daunting but a lot of fun to do. Funky disco stuff doesn't come very naturally to a follower of heavier styles like myself but it was very fun to bust some moves.~ Huge thanks to my brother from another mother Legendav for throwing down some strat goodness on this track! :)

Hey guys! I've been listening to a looot of Cattle Decapitation recently and I had this huge urge to arrange something in a style similar to theirs - after scanning through the new Pokémon soundtrack I found that Team Yell would translate really well (if I like doubled the tempo lol)!
I always strive to make drum tracks that I realistically could play myself, but I decided to throw that out of the window completely this time haha, I DEFINITELY do not have the chops or control to play something along these lines. Just imagine Dave McGraw stepped in as a guest for this track I suppose!
