After 1,700 miles of walking along the roads I will give away everything I own in L.A. Literally EVERY single possession.
This is an experiment with complete non-ownership. I will become a human who owns nothing.
Along the way I will be shedding everything that no longer serves me.
I will release everything on my mind that I’ve been holding back, everything I’ve been embarrassed to share, every secret that I have kept inside. I will have nothing to protect. Nothing to guard. I’ll be living in complete transparency and truth.
Just as I will have no physical possessions, I will be experimenting with non-ownership of my own mind. Everything in my mind will be yours. Creative Commons of the mind.
There will be no wall, no barrier between me and you.
What happens to a mind in this state?
Does the delusion of separateness start to fade?
Do I become more interconnected with it all?
Do I further my goal of being a servant to Earth and all life on this home we share?
This is the experiment I have begun over a decade ago, and am deepening with each step forward for the months to come. This is a public journey, inviting you to explore the mind – mine and your own – with me.
Love,
Robin
Update October 10th: I wanted to share a small update of transparency.
In this video I say that I will be releasing in my mind everything by the time I arrive in Los Angeles. That is indeed my plan of action. I also say that I've set a deadline of Jan 1st for entering complete non-ownshership, whether I arrive in LA by then or not. I've decided it will likely take me a few more weeks to get to L.A. then planned and I'll wait to enter into the experiment of non-ownership until I have completed the walk, as was my original plan. This will be sometime in December or January.

I love you just the way you are.
Inspiration from Mister Rogers.
"It's You I Like
It’s you I like,
It’s not the things you wear,
It’s not the way you do your hair,
But it’s you I like.
The way you are right now,
The way down deep inside you.
Not the things that hide you,
Not your toys,
They’re just beside you.
But it’s you I like.
Every part of you.
Your skin, your eyes, your feelings
Whether old or new.
I hope that you’ll remember,
Even when you’re feeling blue.
That it’s you I like,
It’s you yourself
It’s you.
It’s you I like."

This is one of my last swims in these frozen waters before returning to the mountains of North Carolina where I will continue to swim in the cold waters for the weeks ahead.
Robin Greenfield is a truth-seeker, activist, social reformer and servant to Earth, humanity and our plant and animal relatives. He lives simply and sustainably to be the change he wishes to see in the world. Through living closely connected to Earth, he rejects the status quo of consumerism and demonstrates a way of being in gratitude, mindfulness and presence. His life is an experiment with truth and integrity.
Robin’s public activism involves dramatic actions designed to provoke critical thought, self-reflection and positive change. His activism creates nuanced conversations on the critical issues of our time, with a focus on solutions for living in harmony.
His life’s work has been covered by media worldwide and he has been named “The Robin Hood of Modern Times” by France 2 TV and “The Forrest Gump of Ecology”.
Robin has committed to earning below the federal poverty threshold for life and donates 100% of his media earnings to grassroots nonprofits, with a focus on supporting Black and Indigenous women-led organizations.
This channel is a resource for all who seek to liberate themselves, to live in truth and integrity, and to live in harmony with Earth, humanity and the plants and animals we share this home with.
Robin Greenfield and Dear Friends share means of achieving liberation and harmony through sustainable living, simple living, tiny house living, foraging, growing food and medicine, minimalism, zero waste, earth-skills, food sovereignty, community resilience, compassionate communication, activism, Black Liberation, Indigenous Sovereignty and living in service.

I share deep gratitude with my Dear Friend and Colleague Awanookwe Bratvold for bringing me to her community in Bemidji.
Afterwards Robin led a panel with six Indigenous sustainability studies students and graduates: Colin Eagle, David Villier, Michelle Rose Anderson, Pete White, Jerome Johnson and Nicole Roberts! Unfortunately the audio was not clear enough for us to publish.
A special thanks to the Indigenous Sustainability Studies degree program, Niizhoo-gwayakochigewin program, Sustainability Office, Center for Sustainability Studies, DEI Office, Campus Activities Board, the Students for the Environment club, the People of the Environment program, and the Council of Indian Students for sponsoring the evening.
We share gratitude for spiritual advisor, Ziibiins Alexandra Johnson, Erika Bailey-Johnson from the BSU Sustainability Office and everyone who cooked, cleaned, spread the word, tabled, and helped in any way they could!
Thank you to NewEra4k for filming and video editing this presentation.

And I've biked across the United States three times with all of my gear on my bicycle.
Right now I own about 600 possessions which comfortably fit into a shelter that I temporarily call home.
I've been simplifying and downsizing my life for over a decade and lived in multiple tiny houses and structures.
In this video I share what I would own if I designed my possessions to fit into just a backpack and onto my bicycle with a bicycle rack and bicycle bags.
The purpose of these ~111 possessions is to meet my basic needs to live simply and sustainably, deeply connected to Earth and our communities.

@WildAbundance is a unique skills education center nestled in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina, just outside Asheville. In-person workshops offer hands-on experience with excellent teachers -- great training for those into DIY projects. Topics include basic and advanced carpentry, tiny house construction, timber framing, gardening, permaculture, foraging, wildcrafting, rewilding, and herbal medicine-making to help you live more sustainably. If you seek a more fulfilling lifestyle and want to experience the empowerment that comes from learning the skills to build your dreams, Wild Abundance is an amazing resource. Some classes are just for women, and this school attracts interesting, diverse, and positive people from all over.
The founder, Natalie Bogwalker, is a Dear Friend and colleague and she has created an environment with deep integrity. Of all the places I have visited, Wild Abundance shines out as a place where I recommend to learn the skills to live sustainably and reconnect with Earth.

If I could only choose one tree to plant in every yard in Florida, it would be Moringa, also called The Vitaman Tree or The Tree of Life. Moringa is one of the most nutritionally dense foods on the planet and if everyone in Florida grew and truly utilized this one plant it could change our food system! Moringa can be eaten fresh daily soups, salads, smoothies and direct niblings from the tree. It can also be dried into your very own multivitamin that you can easily travel with.
Moringa is a powerful plant that has been a wonderful friend in my life.
Want to grow a Moringa tree? We provide the seeds for you to grow them as part of our Food Forest Starter Bundle or you can request just the seeds.

Yet, chopping down trees, guzzling fossil fuels, consuming vast quantities of water and then bleaching the paper we create from trees is normal, acceptable and even sophisticated. All the while using plants as toilet paper as well, but separated from reality by an industry… Disconnected from the source.
So sure, I'm crazy. And I will always choose to be the "crazy" one in this disconnected society.
Brut visited me on my compost toilet in Gainesville, Florida to share this message.
Love,
Robin

These shorts were my last piece of plastic clothing and I will now own natural fiber clothing for the rest of my life.
This summer I will transition to 100% regenerative fiber and fabric and make my clothes by hand and simple sewing machine.
Thank you to my Dear Friend Sun for providing me with a pair of her linen shorts to help me break free and reconnect with Earth!

As I paddled in the last mile, I realized what I seek so deeply, so passionately, sometimes so desperately is aliveness.
I want to feel alive!
I want to be connected to life!
I want to be connected to what is alive in me and everything around me!
And through being vigorously alive and connected, I want to wake society up from our current path of destruction.
The way we live today is destroying Earth as we know it…. Taking the lives of millions of our plant and animal relatives… Taking the life right out of the lungs and veins of our Mother Earth…
I come out here to reconnect. To reconnect with Earth. To reconnect with myself. To connect so deeply that I can bring this connection back to humanity and show that another way is possible.
I felt the life out here.
The sun beat down upon me.
The tides exhausted me at times.
The five days straight of strong wind challenged me to find peace amongst the aliveness of the ocean.
The biting insects drove me into my little tented refuge, and they got me in there too.
And the three days of unexpected diarrhea and the difficulty to stay hydrated…
I was a guest in these lands and I accepted each of these challenges as a gift.
No doubt these gifts reconnected me with Earth and with myself.
Now I bring this connection back to you.
To reconnect with what is truly alive in you…
To reconnect with our plant and animal relatives…
To reconnect with our community, our global humanity…
To remember that we are all a part of all life on Earth. Not separate. Not better. Just part of it all.
Love,
Robin

No grocery stores, no restaurants and not even a garden!
Every. Single. Bite.
Nature was my garden, my pantry and my pharmacy.
Brut came out foraging with me in New York's Central Park and made this video.
