This is a great next project if you already know the basic knit and purl stitches and want to start making projects in the round.

Together, we’ll cover:

• How to avoid twisting your stitches when joining
• How to knit a twisted 1×1 rib brim
• How to knit stockinette in the round
• How to shape the crown of a beanie
• How to use magic loop when your stitches become too small for your circular needles

• How to close and finish the top of your beanie
• How to weave in your ends neatly

You’ll begin on a shorter circular needle and then switch to a longer cord for magic loop during the crown shaping, so I’ll show you exactly how that transition works.

M1R KNIT 2026-09-13 | Learn how to knit step-by-step using the Norwegian knitting method in this complete beginner knitting tutorial.

If you're learning how to knit for the first time—or you want to try a different way of holding and tensioning your yarn—I’ll walk you through the Norwegian method slowly so you can follow along and practice with me.

The Norwegian knitting method is a left-hand yarn-holding style related to Continental knitting, but the hands remain more relaxed and closed rather than spreading the fingers apart. One of its most distinctive techniques is the Norwegian purl stitch, which allows you to purl without bringing the working yarn to the front of your work.

In this beginner knitting lesson, you'll learn:

• How to do the long-tail cast-on
• How to tension yarn for Norwegian knitting
• How to make the knit stitch
• How to make the Norwegian purl stitch
• How to recognize and fix twisted stitches
• How to practice stockinette and garter stitch
• How to knit and measure a gauge swatch
• How to adjust needle size when your gauge is off
• How to do a standard bind-off
• Tips for preventing gaps or “dog ears” when binding off
• How to weave in your yarn ends securely

I demonstrate each technique slowly so you can knit along with me and replay any section as many times as you need.

If the Norwegian purl feels unfamiliar at first, give yourself some time to practice. Once the movement becomes comfortable, moving between knit and purl stitches can become incredibly fluid—especially when knitting ribbing.

M1R KNIT 2026-09-10 | Learn how to work the Ruke Bind Off, an easy stretchy sewn bind off that creates a beautiful finished edge on your knitting.

The Ruke Bind Off is one of my favourite ways to finish sweater hems, collars, necklines, cuffs, socks and other knitted edges that need a little extra stretch. It uses a tapestry needle rather than a traditional knitted bind off and creates a clean, flexible finish.

In this step-by-step knitting tutorial, I’ll show you how to work the Ruke Bind Off in the round, including the setup, repeating sequence, how to finish the final stitches, and how to weave in your yarn tail.

I also share how I calculate the length of yarn needed before beginning the sewn bind off.

If you’ve been looking for a stretchy bind off for ribbing, sweater hems or socks, give the Ruke Bind Off a try. It takes a little longer than a standard bind off, but the finished edge is beautiful and wonderfully stretchy.

How to Knit a Stunning Eyelet Blanket With a Beautiful Cord Edge

M1R KNIT 2026-08-30 | Learn how to knit a staggered eyelet blanket from start to finish, including the 8-row eyelet stitch pattern and a beautiful applied I-cord edge. In this full knitting tutorial, I’ll walk you through the stitch repeat, gauge, long-tail cast-on, yarn overs, K2TOG decreases, finishing the corners, and working the applied I-cord around the entire blanket.

This project is a wonderful way to practice knitting and purling while learning a few new techniques in a simple repeating pattern. The staggered eyelets create a light, modern texture, while the applied I-cord edging gives the finished blanket a clean, polished border.

For the tutorial sample, I’m knitting a small 12 x 12" lovey, but the Blanket 02 knitting pattern includes six finished blanket sizes:

Baby Small — 30 x 36"
Baby Large — 40 x 60"
Throw — 50 x 60"
Twin — 65 x 90"
Queen — 90 x 90"
King — 108 x 92"

The blanket is worked flat using a multiple of 4 stitches + 2 stitches and an 8-row repeat.

I knit using the Norwegian knitting method. You do not need to knit Norwegian style to make this blanket—the stitch pattern works with whichever knitting method is most comfortable for you. M1R KNIT 2026-08-25 | Learn how to bind off knitting with 3 useful bind off methods: the stretchy Ruke Bind Off, a standard knitted bind off, and a crochet bind off. I’ll show you each technique step by step, along with simple tips for creating a neat, even edge that isn’t too tight.

In this knitting tutorial, you’ll learn the Ruke Bind Off, a stretchy sewn bind off that creates a beautiful rounded edge and is a great alternative to the Italian or tubular bind off. I’ll also show you how to work a standard bind off, how to bind off in pattern, and a crochet bind off that works beautifully for blankets and other knitted projects.

We’ll also cover how to adjust your needle or hook size when your bind off is too tight or too loose, how to create cleaner first and last stitches, and how I weave in my yarn ends so they disappear into the fabric.

The three knitting bind off methods covered are:

Ruke Bind Off — a stretchy sewn bind off that works beautifully for cuffs, hems and edges that need elasticity.

Standard Bind Off — the classic knitting bind off, with a few tricks for achieving a cleaner, more flexible finished edge.

Crochet Bind Off — a simple alternative using a crochet hook that I especially love for knitted blankets and other edges that don’t require as much stretch.

Twisted stitches can happen after frogging, dropping a stitch, putting live stitches back onto your needle, or simply working into the wrong leg of a stitch. Once you understand how your stitches are oriented, they become much easier to recognize and correct.
