World War 3: Stockpiling Food (Do You Have Enough Food?) CaptainBerz 2023-10-24 | With World War III (WWIII) upon us, are you prepared for World War III (WWIII)? While many countries are posturing and nuclear threats have been made, World War III from a citizens perspective is different than a militaries. Here the in the USA, under Biden currently, if World War 3 (WWIII) were to go from cold to hot and start, would you be prepared and able to live in your house for a while? Or would you have to go to the store and stock up? If you are depending on the store to help you if, or once, World War III (WWIII) kicks off, than you are not thinking properly. Grocery stores only hold a finite amount of food. It does not take long for their inventory to dwindle, it is really enough for the area you live in for a day or two if everyone is rushing to get things. Like during lockdowns when COVID pandemic occurred. I remember that and do not want to experience it again. So we purchase food that we normally eat, and stock up on it so we have a store at our house if you will. For instance, if you like mac and cheese you will need butter, milk and water. I have a good stock of butter in my fridge, and we always have 2-3 gallons of milk in our fridge. But if the power goes out, or that is nor available, we have other options. Like canned or powdered butter and canned powder milk, or long term carton milk. Storing your mac in cheese in canning glass jars and vacuum sealing them extends their life dramatically. So buy them, then move them to the jars I have outlined below. Long term powdered milk and butter can get you a few years shelf life. Canned butter is indefinitely storable in a cool dry place. This is one example.I say World War 3 in jest, as it really comes down to not caring about what will happen, it is about what could happen. Which no one knows, it could be aliens! I know my great grandparents generation always canned, it was like their religion. That has slowed down as each generation is used to easier and easier times. But with how easily life can be affected with hackers, power grids, economic collapse or world war 3, we should think more like my great grand parents generation. In my opinion.For instance, if Mrs. Berz wants to make a chicken pot pie we have to have those ingredients. The lazy way is to have canned chicken, cream of chicken, canned green beans, canned carrots, canned corn, etc. Normally she tops with something like biscuits from the fridge. But given the circumstances of WWIII, that is not an option. So either we need to store a biscuit mix and use that or go without it in a bad situation. But, using all canned, it is all cooked, so technically there is no need to heat up. The best way to zero your hunting rifle is to make sure you zero your scope with you actual round of choice. Do not zero with cheap ammo and then never verify the zero is still good with your expensive hunting ammo. When you buy a scope, buy some cheap ammo and your hunting ammo. Go to the range after installing the scope and start at 25 yards. Dial it in at 25 yards. Then go to 100 yards for an ultimate zero. You should be close and just need a minor adjustment, as the windage won't change much if at all. How To Restore Vintage Weights! (From Rusty to Trusty!) CaptainBerz 2023-08-20 | How to restore vintage weights, like York, is easy. Turn rusty vintage weights into trusty muscle pumpers! Simply take your rust covered dumbbells or weights, scrub them all over to remove most of the rust and surface rust with a wire brush on the end of a drill, then clean them with alcohol to get all the dust and to prep the surface for the next step, then take CRC Rust Converter and paint it on or use a rag to coat the weight or dumbbell. Allow it to sit and it will go from milky to black over time. Do a good three coats. Once three coats are on and any excess has been removed, let it dry over night. While M&P and XD are also options in the 10MM market, the Glock 20 Gen 5 10MM is an old standby. The Gen 4 Glock 20 was solid, but not refined in many ways. Best Bear Caliber When Hiking, Backpacking and in the Wilderness! CaptainBerz 2023-04-02 | When hiking and backpacking in bear country wilderness, usage of a firearm (Like Glock 20 10MM) is a must! Yes, bear spray is a must, along with a firearm, in my opinion. Bears, and even large animals like Moose, can pose a threat to you. While most encounters with bears, like brown and grizzly bears in Alaska, are nerve racking but not violent, depending on the situation, a very small amount can be. Everyone mentions the 44 Magnum as the end all be all caliber revolver for bears. But, the it's not realistic for everyone to use a 44 Magnum is a falsehood. Take your friends to the range and have everyone shoot a 44 Magnum bear load. You will see what I mean.Moving down to the .357 Magnum, while much more controllable, you now have a capacity and weight problem. Only 6, 7 or 8 rounds available in .357 Magnum. Also, you cannot attach a light! In comes the 10MM. Similar ballistics to the .357 Magnum, but 16 rounds in the Glock 20! I have a Gen 5 Glock 20 I just purchased and found it much easier to control than even the .357 Magnum. Just the nature of a revolver, unable to get a super high grip, versus a semi-auto pistol where you can get a higher grip and control is better. Do not think about 9mm in big bear and animal country. That is just a stupid argument. So for me Gen 5 Glock 20 with a Surefire X300 Ultra light checks all the boxes.
