Earlier this year I spoke at a conference with some friends in Germany and was gifted a copy of Luther's German translation of the Bible that was printed in 1836. I asked the person gifting it to me to read Genesis 4:1, which Luther got correct in his translation while many other translations alter it because they assume the Hebrew text can't literally mean what it actually says: "I have acquired a man--the LORD."
