MrLundScience | L-Unit - "The Invaders" (Invasive Species Science Rap) @MrLundScience | Uploaded March 2017 | Updated October 2024, 4 days ago.
Invasive Species are not messing around. We passed them the mic and let them give us some Hip Hop from their perspective. From zebra mussels to spotted knapweed, sea lampreys to asian carp, they are doing everything they can to make sure they are here to stay, and prove that you can't handle The Invaders!
Lyrics:
Verse 1:
I'm not visiting...
Making your home my home's how I make a living.
I was just a seed, found a place to breathe,
Now it's the place to be, and you aint getting rid of me.
Native species, I give 'em the squeeze.
I give them every reason not to be.
Every season resources deplete,
And your economies will soon be feeling me.
As I set up shop, I might be killing your crops.
With every seed that drops, I'm even harder to stop.
Got natural competitors on my hit list,
And showing no mercy, cause I got none to give.
Hook:
We find our clime and start to thrive.
We don't waste time, we multiply.
We're 24 hours, not nine to fives.
Truth is...
You can't handle The Invaders.
You see us putting in our time.
You shake your head and walk on by.
When we take over, don't act surprised.
Truth is...
You can't handle The Invaders!
Long as my population stays intact,
Your ecosystem's gettin' hijacked!
Verse 2:
Mussel, zebra. Nice ta meet ya!
Filter feeder on nearly every beach front.
Came from Mother Russia,
I was a stow away, now I aint goin' away,
I own the water ways.
Fresh water wildlife, put ya all ta waste.
Rearrange food chains,
Aint none a y'all safe.
Algae, I eat it. I like the taste.
Other animals need it, and none remains.
Now I'm in your water treatment, pipes and drains.
No competitors or predators.
This is fun and games.
You spend millions on me, day to day,
But let me fill you in:
Aint nuttin' goan change.
Verse 3:
Sea lamprey.
If you live by the Great Lakes, you know my face.
It's attached to your catch, it's common place.
As a parasite, I've mastered the game.
Your fisheries look tasty to me.
I make 'em bleed. It's quite the treat.
Now I was never invited in,
But I need no permission, latching on a sturgeon,
Or walleye, whitefish, catfish, trout.
My mouth takes them all out.
Just one of me, up to 40 pounds,
And more fatalities next year,
No doubt.
