This talk will explore Lummi Nation's court filings in Canadian courts seeking recognition as an Aboriginal People of Canada which triggers their right to consultation.
The World Issues Forum series is free and open to the public. Talks are held at 12:00pm in Fairhaven College Auditorium, on the top floor of the Fairhaven College main building to the rear (east) side. If you enter from the west entrance (halfway between the second and third floor facing parking lot 12A), take the half-flight of stairs to the left and continue to east side of the building from there. You'll see the door to the auditorium a little to your left.

John Gailus is a Founder and Director of Cascadia Legal LLP in Victoria, BC. Mr. Gailus is a member of the Cumshewa Clan of the Haida Nation. He has a varied law practice focused on consultation, Aboriginal and treaty rights litigation, Indian Act issues and economic development, both on and off reserve. John has served as counsel in all levels of Court, including the Supreme Court of Canada on multiple occasions. John is an Adjunct Professor in the University of Victoria Faculty of Law where he teaches the Indigenous Lands, Rights and Governance course.
