In a part of the world where writing didn't exist, the Luba people devised and ingenious method of recording and transmitting information and history. This was accomplished by mnemonic devices which served as memory aids. The human brain has a remarkable ability to associate memories with the look, sound, feel, touch, and smell of things and the Luba people's memory boards took full advantage of this.
