Dusking is a new tradition, formed by artist Lucy Wright.
People tend to mark May 1st, the start of summer, with Morris dancing but they don't really have an equivalent for October 31st, the accepted beginning of the darker months.
Lucy began 'Hedge Morris Dancing' last year, "morris for people don’t have, or can’t be with a team of morris siblings, but still feel the call to dance". Around the same time she was thinking about our relationship with the darker months and how we could be marking the approach of darkness in a similar way by 'dancing the sun down'.
GETTING INVOLVED WITH 'DUSKING'
Folks everywhere are invited to get involved on 31st October at sundown 4.33pm GMT (in 2024) by marking the occasion in any way you feel is right for you and wherever is suitable for you. It might be a spot of 'hedge morris' in your park or in your kitchen...or it could be something else meaningful to mark that point in the year.
