Had Time Tangent ever been released, this would become the first castle stage alternate music. What you are seeing is an obsolete Wily stage 1 boss design, the Metren Lagann, a reference to the Mr. X 3 boss in Mega Man 6. This design is drawn by ~JusteDesserts on dA.

Theme of Stage 5 from Touhou 14: Double Dealing Character. This rearrangement is also more accurate than the PC-98 version I did earlier.
The recording took over 25 trials to get right, using VirtualMIDISynth with the default GM/GS soundfont converted to a SF2 file, played through Anvil Studio for audio and MIDITrail for video. The Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth will break IMMEDIATELY, and even FL Studio will break the timing considerably.

I used to skip this song completely before working on this track, but I found out it was only due to the stage 4 gameplay itself. I attempted to recreate the dense, smooth lead from this song, and believed this is the closest to 95% accurate per Touhou PC-98 standards.

This track was incorrectly rendered without percussion after the first loop. If you have downloaded the album with the wrong version, download that track again.
Said bells from the original soundtrack never happened because they were totally blaring and any possible patches from earlier Touhou PC-98 music (even HRtP) would only worsen the matter by contributing further to the waste of spectral density. SSG vibrato is uncommon in Touhou PC-98 but not completely absent, so they are here to do the long choir aahs (their portamentos are much shorter than the FM ones).

OPN (26x) version is at the beginning, OPNA (86) version starts at 4:07. Both renditions were 2 semitones lower than were in the final release, and from 4:40 onwards, the FM channels 4/5 did not use the bell-like instrument @54 that was supposed to go with the SSG squares. Of the nine songs (86, 26x) present in this trial demo, all other eight tracks remained identical throughout.
The SSG squares are inaudible in the final 26x version.
