In English, we discussed how this is the most beautiful scene in the entire play, and I honestly agree. Even though our main characters are nowhere to be seen… Sometimes, the supporting characters do have the best stories. 💜⛵️
The Helmer’s are at the fancy dress party, while Kristine is left wondering if Krogstad will actually show, and if she will be able to get Nora out of this mess, and maybe rekindle an old flame… As it turns out, after Kristine left him for a richer man, Krogstad has been heartbroken and shipwrecked. Kristine didn’t have a choice back then, but now she does. And she wants someone to work for, to care for, and to live for. Kristine willingly gives herself to others, not out of fear, but out of love. It seems that Krogstad does have a heart, and had he stayed with Kristine, believes he would have been a better person. Despite all odds, perhaps these two castaways can join forces. Surely, two shipwrecks stand a better chance together. Our two broken widows were made for each other after all, and made for their family. Krogstad realizes that he doesn’t need his job at the bank to get back up, he just needs Kristine, and she can be the one to work. This change of heart makes Krogstad regret his letter, and offers to take it back. Despite her promise to Nora, Kristine changes her mind, and says not to take it back. Kristine has seen a lot in the past few days, and believes that Torvald needs to know the truth, and Nora needs to face the reality. It seems Kristine & Krogstad have seen through the truth of the Helmer’s marriage, and their own love is the complete opposite of them. It seems that Kristine Linde & Nils Krogstad were never meant to sink, but sail together.
Of course, while they are happy, the dear Helmer’s might not be so lucky, after the Tarantella ends right about now…
