Poor Nora is in a major panic after Torvald sent Krogstad his notice. Nora considers asking Dr. Rank for the money, certain he would help her. Unfortunately, Dr. Rank gives Nora the devastating news that he is soon to die, and that he does not want Torvald to know or visit him when the time comes. The two do have a nice time together, and Nora admits that Dr. Rank is the only one she truly trusts. But Nora’s plan to ask for assistance falls apart when Dr. Rank unexpectedly confesses that he’s in love with her, making Nora feel she can’t ask anything of him now. Things get messier when Krogstad once again returns to the house, and gives Nora another unreasonable request through blackmail. He doesn’t only want to keep his job at the bank, but he also wants a major promotion. It also seems to be revealed that Nora does not think much for herself, as she has a hard time saying “I” when confronting Krogstad, instead saying “you”. Krogstad also knows that Nora is considering running away or killing herself, but he knows through personal experience, that won’t fix anything. Regardless, Krogstad reveals that he has a letter for Torvald, exposing Nora’s loan & crime. And once it’s dropped in the letter box, Nora knows that her life is over.
