From ASUS.com:

"ASUS has rolled out a BIOS update for its X670 and B650 motherboards with new options for its PBO enhancement feature that makes it easy to balance thermals and performance. With just a few clicks, users will be able to dramatically reduce CPU temperatures — and maybe even increase performance and reduce fan noise in the process"

PBO Enhancement has 3 different temperature targets that you can choose from. Level 1 targets 90C, Level 2 targets 80C, and Level 3 targets 70C. However, ASUS goes on to say that enabling PBO Enhancement does not only set a temperature target, but it also activates voltage and PBO optimizations.

PBO Enhancement is a feature exclusive to ASUS motherboards, and we used an ASUS ROG STRIX B650E-F GAMING WiFi motherboard and an AMD Ryzen 7 7700X CPU to test it, but it will work with any ASUS X670/X670E or B650/B650E motherboard and AMD Ryzen 9 7950X, Ryzen 9 7900X, or Ryzen 6 7600X. The games are tested at 1080p.

To enable this feature, make sure you are on the latest BIOS firmware. Then, enter your BIOS and go to the 'AI Tweaker' section. Scroll down to 'Precision Boost Overdrive' and click it. From there, select Enhancement from the Precision Boost Overdrive dropdown, and then select one of the three thermal limits available.

The results are quite impressive. In some cases, especially on the lowest temp target - Level 1 (70C) - gaming performance can actually increase.

PBO Enhancement is a great way to customize the temperature target of your Zen4 CPU with just a few clicks and lower the temperature of the CPU if you have a less than ideal cooling solution, or to lower the power draw of your processor if you are worried about your power consumption, as many individuals are these days. Best of all, you can do it without sacrificing performance, or in some cases, actually improving gaming performance.

We are excited to see how this feature evolves with future BIOS updates.
