“A Longitudinal Case of Compassionate Caregiving” by Nhat Bui, RN, ANP, and Mahnoor Allawala, UCSF Memory and Aging Center

Nhat Bui earned her master’s degree in nursing at UCSF in 2016. She is certified as an Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). Nhat assists with the Alzheimer’s Dementia Research Center and clinical trial projects. She is also a member of the Behavior Management Task Force to improve management and understanding of behavioral symptoms in dementia patients. Before joining the Memory and Aging Center, Nhat worked as a primary care provider at Asian Health Services in the Internal Medicine Department at the Rolland & Kathryn Lowe Geriatric Center of Excellence. She provided urgent and primary care to the adult and geriatric patient population. She managed chronic conditions such as hypertension, diabetes and hepatitis with a special focus on patients with neurocognitive and psychiatric disorders. Her research interests are improving access to palliative care in community clinics and long-term care settings.
Mahnoor began work at the Memory and Aging Center shortly after graduating with a degree in neurobiology from UC Berkeley. She’s been involved with the Care Ecosystem program since 2017 and has really enjoyed working with family members of patients with dementia and supporting them in their caregiving journey. She recently began working as a care team navigator for patients with Lewy body dementia in the Memory and Aging Center clinic. Mahnoor would like to become a nurse practitioner with the hopes of working with underserved communities in third-world countries, particularly in her home country, Pakistan.
