“Love Walks In” is yet another classic Van Halen song that I never had an occasion to actually learn until I started performing it with Can’t Drive 55. As usual, Eddie Van Halen’s keyboard part carries the emotional weight of the song and provides its backbone. His chord inversions are so expressive and distinctive, and this part is particularly interesting because of the timing pushes and pulls, the dynamic phrasing, and the slight imperfections reveal how he seems to have approached this keyboard part like a guitarist or an orchestrator rather than merely as a keyboardist.
