An excerpt from my conversation with the philosopher and psychoanalyst Dr Grace Tarpey.
This was one of my favourite parts of our dialogue as we discussed how love relates to the inherent lack that constitutes human beings. Lacan's idea of "Love is giving something you don't have to someone who doesn't want it." is one the most beautiful concepts I've heard, which is antithetical to the contemporary notion of love that entails commodifying and objectifying people.
