Loukanikos falleció el 9 de octubre de 2014, a los 10 años de edad, de un fallo cardíaco. Sufría problemas respiratorios por la inhalación de gases lacrimógenos, además de otras dolencias resultado de los golpes que había recibido de la policía. Sus problemas de salud le apartaron de las manifestaciones en 2012. Desde entonces vivíó hasta el final de sus días con una familia ateniense. Loukanikos supone todo un ícono revolucionario que representa la resistencia frente al sistema opresor. Según contaban los activistas: “Era un perro sin amo ni hogar salvo del cariño de cualquier griego que pase a su lado”.
P.D. Loukanikos iba a las manifestaciones con el grupo estudiantil de izquierdas EAAK, y fue más tarde cuando cambió sus "preferencias políticas" y fue a las manifestaciones con los anarquistas.
Fotografías de Loukanikos, el legendario "perro antidisturbios" callejero que estuvo presente en casi todos los brotes de lucha de clases y desorden social de masas en Atenas hasta 2012, cuando fue adoptado y retirado de la ciudad. Murió pacíficamente mientras dormía en 2014, a la edad de 10 años.

Loukanikos died on 9 October 2014, aged 10, of heart failure. He suffered from respiratory problems due to tear gas inhalation, as well as other ailments resulting from the beatings he had received from the police. His health problems kept him away from the demonstrations in 2012. Since then, he lived with an Athenian family until the end of his life. Loukanikos is a revolutionary icon representing resistance to the oppressive system. According to activists: "He was a dog without a master or a home, except for the affection of any Greek who passed by him".
P.S. Loukanikos would go to the demos with the left-wing student group EAAK, and it was only later that he changed his "political preferences" and went to demos with the anarchists.
Photographs of Loukanikos, the legendary stray "riot dog" who was present at nearly every outbreak of mass class struggle and social disorder in Athens up until 2012, when he was adopted and retired outside the city. He died peacefully in his sleep in 2014, aged around 10.
