The Bad Girls of the golden age of Pulp Horror!
While too often women in sci-fi and horror pulp fiction were damsels in distress, there were also plenty who savored walking on the weird side; Satanas, witch queens, sorceresses, mummy mias, phantasmas, beast women, water-breathers, and levitatrixes. (Yes, I made that word up.) From the 30's to the '50's, many rebel women got their vicarous kicks reading about these unapologetic and dark damsels of the disturbed.
They haunted the pages of classic mags like AMAZING STORIES and STARTLING STORIES, many of whose iconic covers were painted by Margaret Brundage (0:34) and Virgil Finlay (1:42).
The ageless grandmothers of Goth Grrrls, Psychobilly fillies, and Suicidegirls have come for you! It's too late to run.
LOU & GINNY was singer Virginia Charland of Minneapolis/ St. Paul, backed by guitarist Louella Mae Marier and Terry Meil on drums. It was released on 45 as HEP 2141 on Sept. 22, 1958.
