Als Geek Lab | Lotus 1-2-3 Development nearly broke me! (Interview with Bert Bruce, ex Lotus) @AlsGeekLab | Uploaded March 2023 | Updated October 2024, 17 hours ago.
Have you been involved with long-drawn-out projects and been utterly burned out by them? If the answer is yes, then you need to check out this interview with a lovely gentleman called Bert Bruce. Bert worked for Lotus in the 1980s on the 1-2-3 spreadsheet product, which was a household (well, office) name during the 80s and early 90s, before Microsoft Excel took its crown. Bert talks about the trials and tribulations of making that software operate on the PCs of the time. For example, Bert and Lotus really tried to make the upcoming version 3 of the software to use the still popular PC/XT hardware, which only had a 4.77Mhz 8088/8086 CPU and had memory constraints of 640KB. If you are interested in hearing how these sorts of things were done back in the day then this is a must watch!
