Lottie Wainwright (Deceased) is the most 'lively' ghost imaginable. And of course being dead gives her a unique perspective on life: "When time comes t'read y'Will, it should say just one thing: 'Being of sound mind... I spent the lot!'"
Yes, she had a tough Victorian up-bringing - "Young people seem to watch them 'iPods' in their sleep. Well, I tell you something... the only thing I took to bed was hunger, a candle and a mouse-trap!"
And she's also a hard-nosed realist - "The Bible may say, 'the lion shall lie with the calf', but I tell you something, luv... that calf isn't going to get much sleep!"
But missing out on so much when on this earth means that she has now come back from the dead to make sure you live your life to the full -- "Optimism, luv, is when a couple in their 80s get married... and then start looking for a house near a school."
Aware of her weaknesses - "If I've one fault, it's that I'm a very loose knitter" - Lottie is everyone's granny and auntie rolled into one! Yet there's a strangeness about her too, as, being betwixt this world and the next, much of Lottie's gossip concerns the current 'goings on' of those in the next life such as her good friends Karl Marx and Joan of Arc, as well as "who's turned up dead this week".
And don't forget, 'Our Lottie' is quite willing to answer THE REALLY BIG QUESTIONS: 'Who shot JFK?', 'What's Diana doing now?', 'Do Americans go to Heaven?' plus, of course, that more minor issue... 'Is there a God?'
Created by Steve Nallon, 'Lottie Wainwright (Deceased)' comes from that long line of Northern female characters born of Les Dawson, Paul O'Grady, Norman Evans ('Over the garden fence'), Arthur Lucan ('Old Mother Riley'), and not forgetting the legendary Rex Jameson and his Cockney 'Mrs Shufflewick'. All lovable down-to-earth comic figures, though perhaps being dead makes Lottie more 'down-to-earth' in a literal way!
'Lottie Wainwright (Deceased)' has been performed at the Haslemere Festival, the Doncaster Hothouse Festival, The Manchester Library Theatre, The Komedia in Brighton and Bath, Exeter Northcott Theatre, Comedy Camp in London's West End plus that great home of Music Hall The Hackney Empire and the celebrated Royal Vauxhall Tavern.
