This variation on the shows main theme plays in four scenes throughout the shows first season. Though differently edited, its likely its appearances in Whatever the Case May Be” (which does include additional melody) and “Special” are reused, rather than re-recorded.

Michael Giacchino considers himself a storyteller first and a musician second. On LOST, his soundtrack doesnt just suit the story of the show - it adds to it. By attaching certain scenes to established characters, locations, emotions and events through his music, Giacchino provides additional context and meaning to whats happening on screen. This way, understanding Giacchinos rich collection of themes and leitmotifs is another way to further appreciate the score, as well as the show in general.
