![A Song Half-Sung | Elizabeth Chamberlain [Original]
this is a song about grief
“A Song Half-Sung”
Original song by Elizabeth Chamberlain
This song is written in honour of three brilliant musical artists in my life who passed; Randy Mueller, Gary Ostafichuk, and Sheldon Bergstrom.
This is a very personal piece. Lyrics, music, production, recording, etc. all done by me.
Thank-you for listening.
[Original Lyrics:]
[Verse 1]
Time stood still that day
A brick wall stopped by a train
It’s sobering
A week ago is a world away
If I had known
would I have held on longer?
Memories
don’t feel the same
the faces are strange
[Chorus]
Falling skies
Lifted eyes
My world ended that day
Not sure if I should pray
Who decides when a song is done?
Tossed aside
a song half-sung
and the stillness…
…is deafening
[Verse 2]
Will I really never see you again?
Thought I saw you over there my friend
Your smile is carved in clay
Never thought I’d see the day it melted away
Won’t say it
Can’t admit it out loud
Want to cry out but I don’t know how
Can’t find the words
when they end before the last verse
[Chorus]
Falling skies
Lifted eyes
My world ended that day
Not sure if I should pray
Who decides when a song is done?
Tossed aside
a song half-sung
and the stillness…
…is deafening
[Bridge]
The air’s unbreathable
Air’s unbreathable
Is it my time to go?
Would I know?
Looking over my shoulder
Over my shoulder
Thought I saw you over there
I’m not ready
Not ready
Don’t go (15×)
I’m not ready
Not ready
Don’t go
Don’t go
Don’t
go
[Chorus]
Falling skies
Lifted eyes
My world ended that day
Not sure…
Who decides when a song is done?
Tossed aside
a song half-sung
and the silence…
[Key: D Minor]
[Tempo: 80 bpm]
