You can pack a lot of excitement into short flight! Taking off from Dallas Love (DAL) on a beautiful VFR day, I was vectored through the Class Bravo airspace right over the top of DFW (what a view!!!) towards Meacham Field (FTW), my final destination for the day. Confusion over the parking position and taxi route at FTW almost made me read that airport identifier backwards. It was a simple mistake, but one which neither the Ground controller nor I discovered until very late.
Looking back, there were at least a couple of signs that something was wrong:
(1) The fact that the Ground controller assumed I could jump in front of the jet taxiing to the north, when I intended to taxi south
(2) Not finding taxiway 'Lima' on the airport diagram should have made me realize that I was looking in the wrong place, or the controller made a mistake - or, as it turned out, both
It all came to a happy end after getting the grand tour of the Meacham airport. Special thanks to Brian Kelly from DAL Tower for his help with preparing me for the DFW overflight.
