I still can't believe this show basically gave us Renaissance Obikin. Rip my heart.
All in all, I loved season 2 a whole lot more than the first one (Contessina remains the best character though, that is not disputable). I really loved and suffered with all the ships, but to me the highlight of the season were Lorenzo's two brotherly relationships: the one with his blood brother Giuliano, and the one with Francesco, the brother he had chosen -- and that he lost to family rivalry and generational hatred.
I went into the season fully knowing what was supposed to happen and didn't expect their relationship to be this compelling and deep at all (I fully expected Francesco to receive the same "total villain" treatment as Jacopo did), and yet. They know how to pull my strings with the broken (br)otps, I guess ç.ç. The character probably owes a lot to Matteo Martari's stellar performance too -- both he and Bradley were stealing the spotlight left and right with their wonderful acting, imho. I cannot wait for the show to be put on Netflix so more people will watch it!
---Ps: on a sidenote, thanks to all who voted in my poll! Since the feels are still fresh this video had the highest chance to get finished first (and I would love to make a bit more on the Medici), but now I know what to get back to working on next :)

(aka the return -but had it ever truly left?- of the angsty back-to-back thumbnail)

Blue Eye Samurai was one of, if not the first show I watched this year in January and I think I can safely say its going to stay my absolute favourite show of 2024 (unless Arcane s2 topples it at the end of the year). I love virtually everything about it, from the setting to the artful shots, from the complicated, nuanced main cast of characters (I love all of them sm!) to the exploration of themes like discrimination, identity, self-hatred VS self-realization, learning from others on different paths in life;
...and then, to top all this, my etl radar started tingling pretty early on through my first watch and they had the guts to _actually_ build upon it (in a way that makes *complete* sense, since both of these characters use (sword)fighting as a coping mechanism and to them its a sort of identity-defining quality, so its almost ingrained in their beings to be belligerant and to hugely respect and value someone else who is similarly minded) and you can bet this dynamic was always going to be the very first thing I was going to edit about this show.
Because – besides the wonderful character development – the way these two together are completely unhinged is just UNMATCHED.
Taigen fighting Mizu that one time and basically reimagining their one fight _while_ doing the deed with Akemi *already in the second episode*? DEAD. Madame Kaji explaining desire to Mizu and them immediately flashing to aggressively rolling in the snow with Taigen and breathing deep into each others personal space? MADNESS INCARNATE. Mizu casually stealing Taigens scarf for themselves and leaving him with the first sword they ever forged in exchange (because _it fits well in his hand_ )? DEAD AGAIN. A Shang and Mulan/shes the man type of situation with Taigen internally bi-panicking the whole way through those last few episodes on top of all the rest? TOTAL INSANITY.
(And this being only s1...)
They definitely have a long road ahead still [especially Taigen needs to keep following through on those beginnings of self-reflection; maybe if a rather popular s2 prediction is right and he _did_ stow away on a certain ship, facing London as even more of an outsider than Mizu could do him a lot of good too in that regard], but I certainly hope they get to walk it and we get to see it to the end -when they decide to throw their scheduled duel and go live in peace somewhere- they (and this show!) deserve it.
I would absolutely love to do more on these two or try my hand at solo Mizu and/or Akemi videos in the future (I even have songs in mind, imagine that), so hopefully this wont be the last you see from me on BES...but knowing my record and how little time I have for vidding as of rn, you may see them in the next year or so xD. In the meantime, hope someone enjoys this as much as I did making it!

First slideshow ever! Hope it doesnt suck too much!
I had started this vidlet last October, right after going to see the fantastic Golden Skate Awards, but lost inspiration along the way (like usual -.-)...but there are the European championships of figure skating right now, and while watching them I just felt the right push to finish it :)
The GSA is an event reoccuring every year in a different city, where the Ice-skating Federation give rewards to the best ice-skaters of that year. After the Olympics in 2006 luckily Turin became one of the most important cities for the ice-skating competitions, so it has already been held here twice, and Ive been there both times because I so love this sport! Seeing the skaters dancing on ice like its the easiest thing in the world is just pure beauty, and gives you energy and makes you want to dance along :)
I know Im doing different things from my usual fandom, but I hope you people still enjoy this...and whoa! I wanted to thank you all SO MUCH to my 191 subbers, I wouldve never expected to have all this support! You rock! =)

This video = result of me watching way too many period dramas atm and invariably choosing the most painful ships around to ship ç.ç
ITVs Victoria really surprised me as I went on watching, because at the beginning I found it pretty tedious, and couldnt stand Vic constantly whining about Lord M for 3 whole episodes and giving 0 f*cks about ruling and only thinking of herself all the time (sorry Vicbourne shippers, even though I will at least say Rufus Sewell was great in the role)...but then the Coburg brothers arrived to save the day, and the show changed from night to day to me and I loved the second half of the season. As much as Vicbert is OTP to me (all the chemistry!), though, the real surprise for me was *this* relationship here ahh, seeing David in such a sensitive, romantic role just melted my heart, it was about time he didnt play another crazy, power-starved villain. I loved everything about his Prince Ernest, and especially his relationship with both Albert and Harriet, the way he acted cool and a knowing courtier all the time but with them he showed his vulnerable, tender side. Davids acting is always pretty subtle, but at the same time it hits you right with emotion at the exact moment it needs to and daww, I just fell in love with him a little bit more with this role. I seriously hope to see more of Ernest in s2, even though I already know this relationship wont go anywhere ;_;
(I also know I can be pretty nitpicky about historical accuracy when depicting real people, and this affair probably neverever happened considering the real Harriet and her husband were known to be a strong match and had 11 kids together...but ehhh, in this case youll have to excuse me for making an exception, cant help it against Davids lovelorn puppy eyes xD.)

Turns out long-unfinished projects are a total blessing for vidding during an extremely stressful (not to mention longest ever!) exam session, and the only thing I seem to be able to work on at the moment. Ill call this a sort of study in parallels between belligerant ships I like, even though the whole thing as usual probably made way more sense in my head... The ships I went with are all obviously very different, have different story arcs and fit the description in different ways, with some being more similar to one another than others – but I had fun finding visual parallels between those that arent that immediately similar as well!
Additional random considerations about this video:
- It officially seems I can only vid Merlin in crossovers/multifandom/collab parts and not on its own anymore. Will always thank s5 for smiting a good chunk of my love for this show, seriously...
- TWP is coming out in April! Despite really disliking that book, the trailer looks amazing and Elizabeth seems to be depicted quite differently from the source material, which was just the thing I was hoping for, therefore Im unexpectedly looking forward to it. I obviously dont know enough about this portrayal of Elizabeth and Henry yet, but from the trailer they seemed to fit the bill of this video perfectly, so they ended up being thrown into the mix at the very last minute.
-I still maintain that I would be fairly content with any ship outcome from the new Star Wars trilogy, BUT! after noticing the awesome potential Reylo has to become a live-action version of Zutara if they go for a similar redemption route with Kylo in the next films, this ship has grown on me exponentially (maybe just in time to be debunked by The Last Jedi, wouldnt that be great xD). A longer parallel just between these four occupies a significant portion of the video; and it would be seriously amazing if the upcoming films allowed me to make a full video only of parallels between these characters...ah, the possibilities.
**spoilers from future!Vale: it ended up happening ♡♡ you can scream in Reylo freely now, Vale of the past!**.
-Mergana/Milathos get their little dedicated parallel moment as well because heck, the similarities always HURT. So. Much T.T (and about these four Ive already made a separate video ^^)
-Speaking of Zutara, it really amuses me that so many people back in the day criticized it for being an “abusive” ship (which is sadly another thing it has in common with Reylo, since apparently antis of any fandom dont understand the meaning of character development, cant bother to address well-thought out headcanons and meta and just have to reduce everything to “fangirls only ship this because the guy is hot”), but when you see it among these other similarly-themed ones it is probably the healthiest relationship by far in its overall canon story arc. That same healthiness is what I ultimately wish for Rey and Ben too, even if they turn out to be related and in the end we have to settle for a beautiful friendship like we did with Zuko and Katara.

...aaand now this description is already too long so Ill leave my ramblings there. I hope this concept hasnt turned into a total mess, but youll be the judge of that I guess? Any opinions are, as always, really appreciated!
