The 24th April 2016 saw a number of peoples commemorations of the 1916 rising included a much expanded Citizens Commemoration, an annual event marking the actual time and date.
In this video the historian Lorcan Collins talks about the composition of those who turned out for the rising, pointing out that in contrast to the way they are often presented they were far more likely to be ordinary workers than poets.
