Looking for a refrigerant leak (without success) in a recalled Chinese-made dehumidifier, before it goes off to the scrap heap. If I really cared and wanted to spend way, way, way too much time on this, I could pump it up with nitrogen and see how long it takes to decay.
Suspecting that this model might be covered under a recall, I submitted the paperwork and a few weeks later, got a nice little check in the mail. (This also worked with the previously mentioned and similarly recalled dehumidifier. For that one I could have opted for a check or a new unit. I decided to see how bad they are and opted for the replacement unit. That's been about two years ago, and it's still running. Time will tell. It does short cycle very annoyingly, though.)
Your recommendations for electronic refrigerant leak detectors would be welcomed. (I would like to get an H10 Pro, but can't justify the expenditure.) I believe the sensor in the Inficon is still good, as it went off when I let the nitrogen/trace refrigerant mixture out after concluding this video. It also passes its self test. It hasn't been used a lot.
