The Loisaida Festival began as a celebration of the Puerto Rican and Latino communities of Manhattan’s Lower East Side. “Loisaida” comes from the Spanglish pronunciation of “Lower East Side,” reflecting the neighborhood’s deep Puerto Rican roots and cultural identity. Over the decades, the festival has grown into one of NYC’s most beloved Latinx cultural events, honoring the music, food, art, activism, and traditions of Puerto Rico and the broader Latino community while preserving the history and spirit of Loisaida.
