It turns out -- surprise, surprise -- that he evidently didn't see anything. The "monster" in the photograph was a bogus 12-inch-high model made from plastic wood and a toy submarine purchased for two shillings, six pence in Woolworth's in Richmond, a London suburb, two researchers say. The hoax, disclosed in The Sunday Telegraph and a forthcoming issue of BBC Wildlife magazine, was unearthed by David Martin and Alastair Boyd, both with the Loch Ness and Morar Project, which studies the loch's biological and geographic features.

The massive US deployment follows an Iraqi build up along the Kuwaiti border, including about 20,000 troops from Baghdads Republican Guard.
