Here, 35mm film is loaded onto a split reel for inspection and then wound to ascertain length in feet.

Note: Gloves are not used while threading the film as lab staff are handling the leader, which is used to protect the film and begin threading equipment. Once it's time to do an inspection, gloves are worn on the hand holding the film by the edges.
