For the 5th time in the last 26 years. Alexander Lukashenko is officially not recognized as a legitimate representative of Belarusian people by United States, the entirety of the European Union, United Kingdom and Canada just to name a few. The facilitators of the extremely violent crackdown that followed have been made subject and currently are in the process of being considered subject to international sanctions, including the the people in this video. In the last 2 months tens of thousands of people have been illegally jailed, thousands were beaten, hundreds were verifiably tortured and a few have lost their lives. This violence was perpetrated by the people in this video. They are criminals under international law. They continue to roam the streets and administer pain, violence, intimidation and incarceration Today. Not unlike the terrorist groups we all have heard so much about in the middle east. In a state where all domestic law enforcement has failed, documenting their actions and identities is one of the only available public safety measures that can save lives.
Note for everyone who thinks it doesn't look like final software: it is obviously still in development and we needed to get a version out to try and temper the escalating violence.

Hey friends Andrew here. As some of you may know I'm an artist from Belarus. A country that for a quarter of a century has been home to political murders, kidnappings, tortures and every other form of oppression you can think of. Since the beginning of August more than 9000 thousands people have been arrested, thousands have been beaten, hundreds have been verifiably tortured and at lest 5 people lost their lives. All because they peacefully demanded a free and fair election. What you've just seen is our virtual reality experience that allows everyone to know exactly what this feels like from a perspective of a 5 year old girl from Belarus who, at this very moment, has to live the consequences of a fringe group of power-hungry adults who think that beating, torturing and killing people for an opinion different from their own is ever acceptable.
All evil is nothing more than a convenient story that people choose to believe. Every villain thinks they are a hero. To strike at the heart of evil is to kill the idea that that is ever excusable, let alone heroic. And that is what we do as artists. Art is the best and only tool we have for building empathy and dissolving toxic ideas that take root deep inside of us. All it takes is putting yourself in someone else's shoes.
The moment Belarus has free museums we will donate this experience and all the necessary VR equipment, so that every single person can be reminded every day why government sanctioned violence against those we disagree with is never right. But until that happens, please share this as much as you can and help us attract as much attention to what's happening as possible. All evil unravels when we know too much to remain complacent. Lets punch KGB in the shins with Art together.
And our work here documenting injustice and recreating it in virtual reality continues. I think once we are faced with the pain of others so intimately it will be all but impossible not be kinder to each other. The core pillar of Materialing is complete nondestructiveness and ease of reuse. The plugin empowers You to create extremely reusable material presets and layer them for production of your unique assets. The material layer masks are always there which gives you an option to replace a material layer at any given time while keeping the mask and automatically updating all the textures that compose a complex next gen material. On top of that the parent material keeps track of all the assets that ever used it and if at any point in production you decide to update your source material preset the changes can automatically be propagated across all the usecases. And like that wasn't enough you are free to tweak your material presets in your unique assets .PSD(albedo hue shift for example) and your changes will be saved even if you choose to reimport or update your material preset. Materialing aims to make reuse easy enough that people actually do it.

http://www.ArtIsAVerb.info/Lectures/Beauty_Ru.zip*UPDATED*Procedural Materials Tutorial & GiveawayAndrew Maximov2012-06-13 | Dear Ladies and Gentelmen!
I'm happy to present you a collection of shaders that will allow you to spend less time ( and memory ) worrying about details and more time worrying about making your art beautiful. "Procedural" materials are full fledged materials that use only one texture as input: Normal Map + Gradient Map Combo. Feel free to grab them right here:
http://artisaverb.info/Desert/ProcMat_Demo.zip And I hope that this video will help you get up to speed with those, so you'll doing some amazing stuff in no time!
UPDATE V1.2
Updated the example package - make sure to grab it!
This update finally gives you the opportunity to go RGB on your Normal/Gradient Map Combo cutting half the memory footprint from RGBA at the cost of just 2 additional instructions.
http://artisaverb.info/Desert/ProcMat_Demo.zip Now TC_Default compression for Blue channel is way stronger then for the Alpha so be prepared to sharpen, contrast or increase the size of your gradient maps if need be. Or you could always use the Alpha shaders that I'll also keep as a separate download:
UPDATE V1.1
http://artisaverb.info/Desert/ProcMat_Demo_V1.1.zip Trimmed the gradient mapping code down to the bare bones. This definitely should run even smoother. I'll post some test results soon.
I also redid the naming conventions to bear more logic and gave you guys more variations of mats for maximum flexibility.
I hope it comes in handy.Making of The Desert: TechnicalAndrew Maximov2012-06-07 | Link to the Project Video(make sure to check it out) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QtSbrIupviQ
