This is an unsolved mystery concerning the Lliraldi name. We'll share with you what we do know and perhaps someone, someday, will come across this and help shed some light on the question. Where, specifically does the Lliraldi name come from and who were those people? The family story or family lore always was that this Lliraldi surname was of Italian origin. It was a well know family fact but not documented. My Father Eloy Escagedo Lliraldi wrote of his great-grandfather saying:
According to family history, Lliraldi "the Italian" hardly spoke Spanish,
people didn't understand what he would say, so we presumed he had immigrated to Cuba in the 19th (nineteenth) century. We make this assumption based on the fact that one of his grandchildren, Luis Lliraldi Álvarez, son of Félix lliraldi and Romualda Álvarez, was born in 1910.
In relation to the last name Lliraldi, there has been questioning by his descendants on whether it was originally Lliraldi, Giraldi, or Geraldine, well it would not be strange that for varying reasons (pronunciation, signature, etc.), one or more letters in the name could change when an immigrant arrived on the American continent in those early years. In this case, the G of Giraldi or Geraldine, from an Italian when spoken with a marked accent, that pronunciation to a Hispanic can be understood more-less, or confused for Lliraldi with a double L. For the moment, everything indicates that the last name Lliraldi "was born", had its origin, in Cuba. When we can go to Bolondrón, Cuba, we may find more information in relation to this last name Lliraldi, because according to the marriage certificate of Ramona "Nena" Lliraldi Álvarez with Eloy Escagedo Valle in Aguada, her Father Félix Lliraldi Hernández was born in Bolondrón, Cuba.

Ramona had 3 siblings. Luis, Evangelina, and Ramon Lliraldi.Their father and my great-grandfather were Felix Lliraldi born in Bolondron, Matanzas, Cuba, circa the 1880s and married to Romualda Alvarez born in Abreu's, Cienfuegos, Cuba, in 1887. Well, Felix had 3 siblings, Benito, Juan, and Isolina. Their parents were Lliraldi on the paternal side and Hernandez on the maternal. That Lliraldi father as mentioned before in the writings of my Father was said to be Italian and did not speak Spanish. We know nothing more of him or his wife with the surname Hernandez either. They would be my 2nd great-grandparents. Doing research I have had a breakthrough on the origins of this surname recently. Searching on Ancestry I came across 3 search results from the Argentinian census dating back into the 1800s. The surname is clearly written and the country of origin being Italy. In this first census, we can clearly read 3 Lliraldi names and one slightly questionable. the first is a bit faded for the first name, but the Llraldi is clear. That is followed by Angel Lliraldi and then Maria Lliraldi. 2 males and a woman indicated by the V for males and M for ladies. That is followed by their ages which are 22, 1 month and 75 years old for Maria.
