Rising star songbird Lizzy Shapiro, who NPR raves is "one part Eartha Kitt, one part Ella Fitzgerald, one part Amy Winehouse," returns to Campus JAX with a brand new show: Let's Swing Broadway. Fresh from playing sold-out shows at the Tucson Jazz Festival and topping the Apple Music jazz charts with her big band, Lizzy brings a rare intimate show featuring swinging re-imaginings of some of her favorite tunes from Broadway shows like West Side Story, Gypsy, Guys and Dolls, and Showboat.

Wayne Bergeron & Alex Iles | Live Campus JAX JOEY SELLERS’ JAZZ AGGREGATION — LIVE FROM CAMPUS JAX Composer and trombonist Joey Sellers brought his Jazz Aggregation to Campus JAX for an evening of original large-ensemble jazz — including two world premieres and a remarkable performance from an ensemble filled with some of Southern California’s finest musicians. Joey’s music lives somewhere between composition and discovery. It can swing hard, turn inward, fracture, regroup and suddenly reveal a color you didn’t know was coming. The writing is sophisticated without becoming academic; the musicians are given real architecture, but also room to make the music breathe. And this band did exactly that. Alex Iles was exceptional. One of Los Angeles’ most respected trombonists and recording musicians, Alex brought extraordinary command, musicality and imagination to Joey’s music — the kind of playing that reminds you why he has been a first-call musician across jazz, orchestral recording, film and television for decades. THE BAND Trumpets Sean Billings Ron King Woodwinds Jerry Pinter Dan Kaneyuki Phil Feather Trombones Alex Iles Ryan Dragon Bob Lawrence Joey Sellers Rhythm Section Adam Bravo — piano Trey Henry — bass Kendall Kay — drums ABOUT JOEY SELLERS Joey Sellers is an award-winning composer, trombonist, pianist and educator whose honors include the Gil Evans Fellowship in Jazz Composition, Sammy Nestico Award and Julius Hemphill Award. His music has been performed by artists and ensembles including Doc Severinsen and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, along with orchestras, chamber ensembles and jazz groups throughout the country. Joey is Director of Jazz Studies at Saddleback College, and his Jazz Aggregation has served for decades as a vehicle for his distinctive large-ensemble writing — music built around orchestral color, surprise, improvisation and the constantly shifting relationship between structure and freedom.
