🌸 "Under the cherry blossom, there is no such thing as a stranger; we are all friends."
That saying from 19th century Japanese poet Kobayashi Issa certainly rings true in WHOI's Sakura cherry tree grove, a donation from Atsuko and Larry Fish in 2022. The cherry blossom appreciation party they host has been a rite of spring on campus ever since.
This year, we were treated to an a capella sea shanty from Livingston Taylor, who shared the "amazement and jealousy for the voyage of discovery that you get to spend a life doing" that he feels while traveling between Woods Hole and his home on Martha's Vineyard.
