What can we learn from nature? How can we be benevolent towards nature? Backlight talks with environmental philosopher Glenn Albrecht about a new era that awaits us: the Symbiocene. An era in which humans, nature and technology live together in balance and benefit from each other's existence.
Researchers and artists such as Jalila Essaïdi, Lucas de Man and Iza Awad are working on materials for the Symbiocene. Materials that originate from nature and can also be reabsorbed by nature. They come up with surprising examples such as use of silkworms, mycelium and kombucha.
How can we transform into an era in which humans coexist with nature. Several artists were inspired by the new vocabulary Albrecht came up with for the Symbiocene. What materials are artists and researchers already using to shape human lives in the Symbiocene?
