Sadhbh (pronounced like Sive) is an off grid tiny home on wheels.

A 1995 Irish 28 seater passenger Mercedes 609D bus.
The 600 series refers to 6 tonne gross vehicle weight (09 refers to a 90hp engine).

It was converted to a campervan by its previous owner but it was a rough finish so I enlisted the help of the talented The Imperfectionist: a talented couple Rowan and Lucy that do up old Mercs for a living. They converted the bus into the beautiful home that it now is.

Whatever could be was recycled or re-purposed from the copper reclaimed from an old hot water cylinder that became the heat deflection surround around the stove to the sofa cushions from an old sofa which saved on the expense of buying new quality sofa foam, to many other details.

The bus is off grid with all power (12volt) by solar panels on the roof. There are many USB ports around the bus to recharge things. All the lights are low power consumption LED. I don’t yet have an inverter but if I invest in one I’ll be able to power 240 voltage for things such as my laptop. But I can recharge my phone and head torch by USB and all internal lighting inside the bus.

There’s a compost toilet which has a pee separator and uses sawdust to cover the solids. This is a very efficient system and has no bad odours at all. It’s easy to empty into a compost heap to rot down.

There’s a large water tank under the bus I can re-fill as needed. And the gas stove has a gas canister that needs refilling infrequently.

There’s a wood burning stove to heat the space. If I’m using this I heat all my water with a kettle on top of the stove and I store it in a Stanley flask to keep it hot through the day. The stove was commissioned and handmade by FireWeaver Julian Cowdery in the UK.

I had to get an HGV truck license to drive this bus and while this was time consuming and expensive it was worthwhile as I now feel full confidence to drive such a big vehicle safely.

Size:
Length 24’ 3” or 7.4m
Width 7’ 6” or 2.3m

The bus is primarily parked up on a farmers land where I help with the animals in exchange for a parking space.
