We learn something new every day living in Portugal. Winters can be cold and damp throughout the country. Here in Lisbon, we have not been shy about using our heater. Even though we expected higher rates during the winter, our most recent electric bill was a bit of a surprise. But it didn't stop us from running our heater!
Turns out utility meters are not read monthly here in Portugal. So our latest bill included our current month's charges, plus the overage amount for the previous few months calculated once the meter was read. There is a mechanism to provide your utility meter reading to your service provider each month. But let's just say, we're not quite there yet.
