Andy Burnham will become prime minister and name his cabinet on Monday as Sir Keir Starmer steps down.
Sir Keir is to give a goodbye speech around 11am as he leaves No10 before he and the new Labour leader head to Buckingham Palace to meet the King.
The Makerfield MP will then give his first speech as PM before naming his cabinet.
In the speech, the former Greater Manchester mayor will promise to give people “breathing room” against the rising cost of living.
He has been tight-lipped about his top team, but is believed to have been weighing up either Energy Secretary Ed Miliband or Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood to be chancellor.
