Watch live coverage as SpaceX launches a Falcon 9 rocket carrying three BlueBird satellites for AST SpaceMobile’s cellphone service from space. Liftoff from Space Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station is scheduled for Wednesday, August 5, at 3:42 a.m. EDT (0742 UTC). Inside the payload fairing are BlueBird 11, 12 an 13, each satellite has a communications array measuring about 2,400 square feet.
In addition to our launch coverage, we will watch for a Falcon 9 second stage to crash into the moon at around 2:35 a.m. EDT (0635 UTC). The stage helped launch Firefly's Blue Ghost-1 and Japan's ispace Hakuto-R missions to the moon in January 2025. We're not sure what we will see, if anything, but we'll be watching, clouds permitting.
The first-stage Falcon 9 booster for the Bluebird 11-13 mission is serial number B1077, launching for a 30th time. It will land on the drone ship 'A Shortfall of Gravitas' stationed in the Atlantic Ocean about 8 minutes 43 seconds into flight.
The Falcon 9 will take a north-easterly trajectory on departure from Florida's Space Coast.
