This is a hunt I've wanted to do for a while but I never got around to. Seeing everyone hunt theirs in BDSP, in combination with Arbor Week, gave me the motivation to finally get around to this! I know it would be easier and more authentic in gen 8, but I prefer gen 4, it's more exciting with rarer odds for me and also more nostalgic of when I originally did this event as a kid :)

The Badge Quest is over after about 8 years. I started hunting the starter on July 27, 2013 and have now finished this final hunt on February 10, 2021. This Pichu took 17,001 eggs & ~567 hours and is my longest hunt in terms of hours to date. Absolutely worth it. For those interested, this Pichu cannot migrate, but I don’t migrate my shinies anyways so personally I’m not affected.
A lot of you already have a problem with this hunt before even seeing it. At the end of the day, I did this hunt for fun for myself, it doesnt affect anyone else so if you have a problem with it then you should re-evaluate whats important. Its an 11+ year old video game.
Here is the cheat needed to allow Pichu to breed, for those interested. Press L to activate, if the Pichu are breeding then it works! (Not sure if you can MM this or not, I assume you would be able to with a male foreign parent or ditto)

Some information I wanted to include for this video: I’d like to dispel some misinformation. I’ve heard people say these starters are the worst starters and that they take 10 minutes per reset. But they’re actually a minute and a half per reset if you check the summary instead of throwing it out into battle to check (if you do the latter it’s 2 minutes). This means that diamond and pearl starters are the same pace and gen 7 starters are slower regardless of which version you choose. And if you account for odds differences, Diamond, Pearl, platinum, black, white, black 2 and white 2 starters are all slower. So yeah these starters aren’t THAT daunting, give it a try!
Im stoked to start this badge quest! I havent really played this game since it was released so this will be a lot of fun re-experiencing it with a shiny team!
