대중성과 예술성 다 잡는다! 제29회 부산국제영화제 오늘 저녁 개막

On the cultural front, the annual Busan International Film Festival, Asia’s largest in scale, starts its 10-day run today.
For a closer look at opening night, our culture correspondent, Song Yoo-jin, joins us live from Busan.
Yoo-jin, the opening ceremony should be underway now.

That’s right, Jung-min.
The opening ceremony of the 29th Busan International Film Festival officially began at 6 PM here at the BIFF Theatre inside the Busan Cinema Center.
The red carpet was rolled out at around 5:30 PM, welcoming actors, directors, and producers from around the world.
This year, 2-hundred-78 films will be screened over 10 days.
Of those, 2-hundred-24 films from 63 countries are part of the official selection, up 15 films from last year.
The main ceremony, hosted by Korean actors Park Bo-young and Ahn Jae-hong, is set to kick off shortly after 7 PM.
It will feature the presentation of some of the festival’s major awards.
This year, the Asian Filmmaker of the Year Award will be presented to Japanese director Kiyoshi Kurosawa, widely known for his horror films "Cure" and "Pulse."
The Korean Cinema Award, which honors those who have contributed to the global spread of Korean cinema, will be awarded to the late actor Lee Sun-kyun.
Tonight's ceremony will wrap up with the screening of this year’s opening film, the action drama "Uprising," starring Gang Dong-won and Park Jeong-min.
Cannes-winning filmmaker Park Chan-wook participated in the film as a producer and scriptwriter.

That’s a wonderful start to the festival.
What are some of the standout features of this year’s edition?

If I had to describe this year’s festival in a keyword or phrase, it would be "mainstream appeal."
Compared to previous editions, this year's BIFF is focused on expanding its reach beyond cinephiles to engage a broader audience.
For the first time in the festival's history, a streaming original, Netflix’s "Uprising" has been selected as the opening film.
It’s set to premiere on the platform next Friday.
"RM: Right People, Wrong Place," a documentary showing BTS member RM’s journey of making his solo album will make its world premiere here.
However, beyond that, the opportunity to enjoy a diverse range of films seems to be already an exciting experience for the audience, particularly for those with an interest in or connection to the film industry.
Take a listen.

"My impression is that the Busan International Film Festival has a pretty solid reputation and is up there with some of the film festivals that get the most traction culturally. I'm so excited to see a film that my friends produced and it's a film that takes place here in Korea and Jeju Island."

"I am majoring in film production and I hope someday, the movie I filmed could be screened at the Busan International Film Festival."

That’s impressive.
What other major events can visitors look forward to during the festival?

Several of the films being showcased have already been recognized at prestigious international film festivals.
One standout is "Grand Tour" by Portuguese filmmaker Miguel Gomes, who was named Best Director at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
A special program titled "Miguel Gomes: A Filmmaker of Joyful Melancholy" will screen eight of his films.
Regular events like Actors’ House, Open Talk, and Outdoor Greeting will provide attendees with unique opportunities to engage directly with their favorite actors and filmmakers through Q&A sessions and lectures.
Those interested can reserve tickets on the festival’s official website.
That’s all I have for now.
Back to you, Jung-min.

That was our Song Yoo-jin at the Busan International Film Festival.
