Did you spot us? Our Live Facial Recognition vans hit the streets of Oxford earlier this week, marking the first time that the technology has been used in the Thames Valley.
Live Facial Recognition is used as a precision crime-fighting tactic to locate people who are of interest to the police. Only people whose faces are on the watchlist will trigger an alert, and to be on the watchlist you need to be a person of interest or suspect in an ongoing criminal investigation. If you are not on the watchlist then your image is deleted.
During the deployment earlier this week, in just a few hours, the vans flagged seven alerts, resulting in three arrests and two voluntary interviews arranged - offences included, domestic violence, public order and stalking.
